Just in Time.

Alright guys, whats up big update here at D-a-D just wanted to let you in on what might be occuring.

College starts for me in a week and for Dutch as well, and honestly I've been up to my ears in stuff I have to finish before I leave, because of this we may have to put the site on a temporary hiatus.

I mean for all of the viewers, and at this point thats not many (I know I put on a hit counter) I honestly dont want to do this but I'm running low on time and also ideas, so if you wanna help or make the site come back sooner, send me a little resume or just some ideas of what to draw, contact me here UccelloNero at Gmail.com.

But for now let me just post the .igs conversion of the sharpie marker and todays file, (cue dramatic music) a whammy bar fulcrum for the guitar hero guitar, let me just say at the time that I made this I did so out of necessity because I'd broken mine, this one isn't exactly to scale because all i had at that time was an architect's ruler, thus if you were to make this piece in say a Rapidprotyping machine you'd have to considerably sand it down to work.

Enough with the riff-raff, here's the files guys:

So sorry.

Alright guys, sorry for the failure of one draft a day but I will post the file I was working on earlier today now, in my own defense though, if the police hadn't stopped my car I would've made the post in time.

Only posting the .par file now, I'll save it in .igs and release the other half of the file later, btw the draft of the day is a ......Sharpie marker baby, hell who hasn't used or loved one of them?

Yeah, we got a bit lazy.

Hey guys, BlackBird here, I couldn't finish my design for today so I reverted to the backup plan, a useful link for everyone.

Cue plug for cad website.....GO!

One of the programs I learned and used in one of my cad courses for about a year was called Revit, a product of Autodesk it aims at bringing 3D functionality to architecture and buildings, when using this program I found a very useful feature, the ability to render my scenes, now as any photographer will tell you, a picture needs a good background to be truly great and thats when I discovered a website called Revit City, a seemingly endless supply of free Revit part files to help fill in and give a real picture of what your building is gonna look like in the end, I can in all honesty say I love this site.

Thanks again for joining us guys and visit tomorrow for more Draft a Day content!

Yo-Yo

A little late but it's my birthday so it's okay :).

Now who doesn't love a good yoyo? This one here is modeled after a duncan butterfly. I know the string wrapping isn't great, but it was done with a spline, so that's an accomplishment in itself.

I can only release it as a .par solid edge format because I upgraded my computer to vista, and I need to figure out how to put solid edge on it, and get the license file from Blackbird. Legally of course.

Anywhoo, here's the yo-yo.

And the gods of drafting smiled upon us.

We'll, A big update for Draft-A-Day, First I obtained and installed Autodesk Inventor, so I may start designing in that program as well as Solidedge, I dont know what i want to do just yet. And for you folks that dont have Solidedge I found a decent file format that seems to be accepted on any cad program, the format is called IGES, (Interchangable Graphics....) so now anyone with a parametric (3D) cad program can open and view the files released, from now on our policy here for releasing files will be:

1. Release the file in its native cad program format.
2. Release a .IGES conversion of the same file.

And thats it folks, for now I'm re-releasing the Screwdrivers in IGES and their native formats, We'll have a great release tomorrow for the lack of new content today.

First Drawing Update

Well, I figured I'd give you all an update on what I'm doing for my first drawing to submit. I'm creating a Model D John Deere tractor. If you don't know what that is, feel free to google it :). As of now I have the very basic tractor done, probably around 16 hours logged into it. The rear and front tires are completely detailed, now I just have to work on everything in between. I"ll post a link to it as soon as I am done drawing it. It will be released on Solid Edge V18.

Everyone loves a good pair.

Hey guys, I thought since I released that Phillips head screwdriver the other day I better make a flat head to go along with it, so here it is:

My First Day

Hey, this is Dutch. I'm glad to join the team of Draft-A-Day, and I am sure that I will be able to contribute my fair share. I'm also more than happy to offer my Drafting skills as an aide to anyone who visits Draft-A-Day.

Welcome to Draft-A-Day.

Our New Author.

I'd like to make a warm welcome to our new author Dutch, a good friend of BlackBird in real life, I have no doubt he will give great posts and drawings to the site.

Morning Special

Well, now that I have the basic idea down for this blog, let me share it with you. The idea behind this blog is that every day I will post something useful to someone (that someone being a drafter, architect, engineer, etc.), whether that be cad files that I design myself or programs or other websites that can help you suceed and be productive.

The only cad programs I run at the moment are AutoCAD 2008, and Solidedge V18, if you want me to convert my files or have any tips then leave some comments below.

So now that I've done my speech I present to you Day Two's file, a phillips head screwdriver made by Stanley Hand Tools, and let me just say, this turned out a bit harder then i expected it too be.

Freeforall.

Well, because I launched the site so late I could only come up with so many ideas for a drawing to do, so I ended up just drawing a basic 2.5" Cube. Obviously not the greatest or most exciting thing to draw but with 30 minutes left before my self imposed deadline, what the hell, without further ado here is the premiere drawing of D-a-D:

First of many...

This will hopefully be the first of many posts, for now you can call me BlackBird.

The purpose of this blog is threefold, too hone my cad skills in preparation for college, to build a respectable portfolio for future jobs and finally, to provide some cool and free drawings to the internet hordes!
